Memory is more than simply a storage system; it is a dynamic process that allows the brain to encode and retrieve information, but sometimes there are problems.ÌýÌý

ThisÌýfour-weekÌýcourseÌýpresented by Jim Briggs, professor of psychology,Ìýwill explore how memory works and why it sometimes fails.ÌýParticipantsÌýwill examine key models of memory, including encoding,ÌýstorageÌýand retrieval processes, andÌýwill analyzeÌýthe distinctions between sensory, short-termÌýand long-term memory systems.ÌýThe courseÌýwill also investigate the malleability of memory, its vulnerability toÌýdisruptionÌýand the major sources of forgetting.ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý

The course will be held online each Tuesday in February, beginning Feb. 3 at 7 p.m.Ìý

Briggs joined the faculty at °µÍøTV in 2011. His scholarly interests in the environmental and neurobiological underpinnings of memory formation, memory retention and amnesia have resulted in several publications, including eight with undergraduate student co-authors.ÌýIn 2024, he was recognized with theÌýJohn C. Horn Award for Distinguished Scholarship and Creative Activity.Ìý
