Assistant Professor of Music, Amanda Stante, mezzo-soprano and Associate Professor of Music, Naomi Niskala, piano will be presenting a recital of Scandinavian works for voice and piano, set to poetry in Norwegian, Danish, Swedish and German. The program includes Edvard Grieg’s only song cycle, Haugtussa (The Mountain Maid), as well as a song cycle by another Norwegian, pianist and composer Agathe Grøndahl, Blomstervignetter (Flower Vignettes). The duo will also perform a set by Swedish composers Ture Rangström, Hugo Alfven and Elfrida Andrée. Lastly, they will perform songs from Norwegian composer Christian Sinding’s Des Knaben Wunderhorn (The Boy’s Magical Horn) song cycle, paired with songs from Mahler’s own Des Knaben Wunderhorn cycle.
