The Bardin-Niskala Duo, a cello and piano ensemble, presents: How Did We Get Here? Examining Racism: Asking for Compassion Through Music. Join us for an evening of commissioned works from African American composers Quinn Mason and Anthony Green, Kanaka Maoli composer Leilehua Lanzilotti and Japanese American composer Michi Wiancko.

These works address several racial injustices in the United States, including slavery, the colonization and acquisition of Hawaii as the 50th state and the 1942 U.S. Executive Order 9066 that forcibly imprisoned 110,000 Japanese Americans for the duration of World War II.

Personal messages from the composers and a Q&A will follow the performance, opening dialogue among audience members and the artists.
