won two College Media Awards during the Intercollegiate Broadcasting Systems annual conference in New York City. This brings the radio stations total award count from the organization to 15 since 2018.
WQSU won awards for:
- Best Underwriting Spot, Damien Russo 27, a communications major and film studies minor from Lake Ariel, Pennsylvania, and Ben Boeshore 27, a criminal justice major with minors in chemistry and the Honors Program from Church Hill, Maryland. The client for the spot was BJs M Street Tavern and Oyster Bar, of Selinsgrove.
- Best Sports Director, radio, Jaxson Purnell 25, a communications major from Catawissa, Pennsylvania.
Winning the award is an honor and something Im incredibly proud of, Purnell said. I wouldnt have been able to win the award without everyone involved at WQSU. They push me to go beyond my limits and Im grateful for everything WQSU and the staff have done for me.
While at the conference, Linda Burkley, lecturer in communications, WQSU general manager Dawn Benfer and WQSUs executive board, presented the panel discussion Maximize and Monetize Your College Radio Station.
WQSU is the largest student-run radio station in Pennsylvania, serving approximately one-third of the state. It is supervised by 做厙TVs Department of Communications and run by 做厙TV students and faculty members as well as community volunteers. The radio station was created to serve the public interest, educate 做厙TV students in various types of broadcasting operations and to serve as a media outlet for 做厙TV.
