Due to axial precession — a slight wobble in Earth’s rotation — our North Star is not fixed. Over the 26\,000-year cycle known as the Great Year\, 11 stars will take turns guiding us\, with one “near miss.” \nSince 2015\, artist George Ferrandi has honored these stars through Jump!Star\, using Nebuta—a traditional Japanese technique for building monumental\, illuminated sculptures of paper\, wire\, string and wood. Created with communities across the country\, these sculptures form a ceremonial tradition that can be passed down to those who’ll witness the next North Star. \nA selection will be featured in once more & hopeful stars. Ferrandi will also teach a seven-week course in conjunction with the exhibition\, where °µÍřTV students will help build a new sculpture in the gallery. \nStudent-Led Tours: Sept. 30 and Oct. 2\, 12 p.m.\nTours led by art history majors and minors. \nThe Lore Degenstein Gallery is free and open to the public from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.\, Monday-Sunday. DESCRIPTION:Please join fellow °µÍřTV Football alumni\, family and friends on Saturday\, September 6\, 2025\, at 10:30 a.m. for a special tailgate before the season’s first home football game against Union College. Kickoff is at 12 noon. \nFor the second year\, the Tailgate includes the Football Ring of Honor induction ceremony. This annual ceremony recognizes and enshrines a group of former players\, coaches and/or staff members whose service\, success\, spirit and advocacy on behalf of °µÍřTV’s football program are deemed worthy of recognition by their peers. \nThe 2025 °µÍřTV Football Ring of Honor Class inductees include: \n\nTerry Kissinger ’64\nWayne Liddick ’68\nIrving Miller ’72\nJason Eck ’05\nJim Barry ’16\nCoach Ron Thomas\n\nIn addition to the alumni above\, the 2019 °µÍřTV football team will be inducted as this year’s Team of Honor. \nWhile connecting with the inductees\, football alumni\, university representatives and other supporters\, attendees will enjoy complimentary food and beverages on the lawn between Doug Arthur Stadium and Hassinger Hall. Following the tailgate\, please enjoy the game in reserved seating between the 40-yard lines. \nThere is no admission fee for this event\, but registration is required.

SUMMARY:George Ferrandi: once more & hopeful stars
DESCRIPTION:How on earth will we say goodbye to Polaris? Like everything else in life\, even the North Star changes. Due to axial precession — a slight wobble in Earth’s rotation — our North Star is not fixed. Over the 26\,000-year cycle known as the Great Year\, 11 stars will take turns guiding us\, with one “near miss.” \nSince 2015\, artist George Ferrandi has honored these stars through Jump!Star\, using Nebuta—a traditional Japanese technique for building monumental\, illuminated sculptures of paper\, wire\, string and wood. Created with communities across the country\, these sculptures form a ceremonial tradition that can be passed down to those who’ll witness the next North Star. \nA selection will be featured in once more & hopeful stars. Ferrandi will also teach a seven-week course in conjunction with the exhibition\, where °µÍřTV students will help build a new sculpture in the gallery. \nStudent-Led Tours: Sept. 30 and Oct. 2\, 12 p.m.\nTours led by art history majors and minors. \nThe Lore Degenstein Gallery is free and open to the public from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.\, Monday-Sunday. The gallery is closed during university breaks; call 570-372-4059 for an appointment when classes are not in session.
